MARCIN KOSZAŁKA’S TRIUMPH IN CHICAGO

April 14 in Chicago the 47th Hugo TV Awards were announced. “Declaration of immortality” by Marcin Koszałka was listed among the winners.

The Hugo Television Awards, organized by Cinema/Chicago which is a non-profit, cultural and educational organization dedicated to encouraging dialogue between cultures and making a positive contribution to the artistic form of the moving images, for 47 years has been developed as a part of the Chicago International Film Festival.

This year’s Hugo Television Awards planning committee includes Michael Schmiedeler of Towers Productions, Gary Schotz of DRAFTFCB, Ashley Sferro of DDB Chicago, Cortney Groves and Stefi Weaver of WTTW, Rachel Pikely and Maria Finitzo of Kartemquin Films, Diane Mercurio and Melissa Taylor of Resolution Digital Studios, and Dan Klein of DePaul University.

On selecting the best television production from all around the world, the committee granted the Silver Hugo Award for the best documentary film to Marcin Koszałka’s “Declaration of immortality”. This is the second prize received by the film this year. Koszałka was also recently awarded at the festival in Tampere, Finland.

In this film Marcin Koszałka returns to a forgotten genre, namely a mountain film. The protagonist of his story is Piotr “Mad” Korczak, somewhere in the background there is his rival Andrzej Marcisz. The director focuses on the decline of the career of the great master, provoking his reflection on his future life, when he will no longer be able to climb mountains. It’s a moving story about inability to come to terms with aging and about desire of immortality.
