POLISH DOCS AT HOT DOCS!

Over 170 films from all around the world, the film market, pitching forum, workshops, international conferences–this is only the outline of the Hot Docs programme, which will be held at the turn of April and May 2011. The big news is that there are Polish documentaries in the varied programme of films produced in all corners of the globe!

Previous years proved that Canadian audience is eager to watch Polish documentary cinema. Last year there were four Polish titles screened in the programme: Chemo by Paweł Łoziński, Six Weeks by Marcin Janos Krawczyk (both of them in the international competition) as well as War Games by Dariusz Jabłoński and A Man Came And Took Her by Jędrzej Niestrój and Rafał Przybył, whereas in the Doc Shop market which accompanies the festival there was the huge number of twenty two Polish documenTarsie shown. What is more, Polish documentaries succeed in Toronto as well. For instance, Rabbit à la Berlin by Bartek Konopka was placed among the winners of the festival receiving the Best Mid-Length Documentary Award.

At this year’s Hot Docs edition (from April 28th to 8th May) four Polish documentaries will be presented as the part of international competition: Out Of Reach by Jakub Stożek–the laureate of the last Sundance Film Festival, At the Edge of Russia by Michał Marczak–awarded at the festival Flahertiana in Perm and East Silver Market, Phnom Penh Lullaby by Paweł Kloc–which world premiere will be held at Visions du Réel in Nyon, and also That’s life…–the documentary debut by Daniel Zieliński, a student of Polish Film School in Łódź.

Just like during last year’s Doc Shop market, also during this edition film professionals from all around the world will be given a chance of watching the enormous number of Polish documentaries as the part of Polish Docs project. Polish Docs project is organized by the Krakow Film Foundation with the support of the Polish Film Institute.

Hot Docs is the North America’s largest documentary festival welcoming hundreds of international filmmakers and industry delegates to Toronto. However, it is the event dedicated not only to presenting documentary cinema from almost all countries of the world. The Sales Office is the centre of market activity at Hot Docs. Offering valuable services for all delegates, the Sales Office is an essential resource for both buyers and filmmakers looking to connect with the right people, find the right product or have their questions answered.
