ZAGREBDOX – AWARD FOR POLISH DOCUMENTARY!

Last year’s success of Wojciech Kasperski and his “Chasm” at the festival in Zagreb has been repeated this year. The “Little Stamp” award went to Piotr Złotorowicz for his film “Charcoal Burners”.

After „Charcoal Burners” double triumph in France (Grand Prix at the festival  "Fenêtres sur courts" in Dijon in 2010 and Grand Prix at the festival "Filmer le Travail” in Poitiers in 2011), also in Pärnu, Estonia (Award for Best Short Documentary) and in St. Petersbourg (Award for Best Documen¬tary Film) Piotr Złotorowicz appeared on the podium once again – this time receiving the “Little Stamp” Award at the 7. International Documentary Film Festival ZagrebDox.

It is worth to add that apart from “Charcoal Burners” eight Polish documentaries took part in the ZagrebDox’s competition: “A Piece Of Summer” (dir. Marta Minorowicz), “Declaration Of Immortality” (dir. Marcin Koszałka), “Interrogation” (dir. Adam Palenta),  “Inventory” (dir. Paweł Łoziński), “Oh My God, Dear God” (dir. Julia Popławska), “Out Of Reach” (dir. Jakub Stożek),  “The Trip” (dir. Bartosz Kruhlik), “Tomorrow…” (dir. Bartosz Kruhlik).

The film “Charcoal Burners” was produced by National Polish Film School in Łódź. This is a story about Marek and Jan¬ina who work every sum¬mer in the Bieszczady moun¬tains mak¬ing char¬coal. The documentary depicts the simplicity and calmness of their world, an extract of their unhurried life surrounded by wildness of nature. We observe the protagonists during their everyday activities, far from civil¬iz¬a¬tion, in the midst of the moun¬tains fol¬low¬ing the rhythm dic¬tated by nature.

“Charcoal Burners” have been at 10 international festivals abroad yet. Its journeys are not going to end. On March Piotr Złotorowicz’s film will be screen at: Washington DC Independent Film Festival, REGARD - Saguenay International Short Film Festival (Canada), GO SHORT International Short Film festival in Nijmegen (the Netherlands), 8. WorldFilm Festival in Tartu (Estonia) and International Short Film Festival Cortisonici (Italy). “Charcoal Burners” will be also shown at the goEast Film Festival (Germany) and IndieLisboa (Portugal).
