FESTIVALS IN JULY

In summer months, there are slightly fewer festivals than in autumn or spring. However, in July over 20 Polish short films will be screened in over 50 screenings at almost 20 festivals abroad.

The Bulgarian festival In the Palace, which started in June, includes as many as five Polish films in its competition section: "You Keep An Eye On Us" by Arek Biedrzycki, "Such A Landscape" by Jagoda Szelc, "Exhale" by Maciej Wiktor, "Real Honey" by Sławomir Witek and "Invisible" by Zofia Pręgowska. "Such A Landscape" and "Invisible" are among the festival award-winners.

In the first half of the month, six Polish short films will be screened in the competition sections at two Italian festivals. In the competition of the ShorTS festival, held in Trieste, "under_construction" by Marcin Wojciechowski and "The Shadow Forest" by Andrzej Cichocki will be shown. "Father's Day" by Kacper Lisowski, "Baths" by Tomek Ducki, "Knife in the Wife" by Vita Maria Drygas and "The Brick," directed by a group of directors from Burma, will compete for the awards at the Euganea Film Festival, held in Padua.

Polish productions will also be present at Italian festivals at the end of July. Five Polish films qualified for the competition of Lago Film Festival: "To Thy Heart" by Ewa Borysewicz, "An Incredibly Elastic Man" by Karolina Specht, "Of A Forest" by Katarzyna Melnyk, "Two Hearts" by Katarzyna Warzecha and "Wanda" by Zuzanna Karpińska. In addition, "Object" by Paulina Skibniewska will participate in the competition at Filmcaravan festival, and "Fragments" by Aga Woszczyńska - in the competition at Montefeltro festival.

At the festivals on the other side of the Atlantic, one can also watch quite a numerous representation of Polish short film. Three fiction films produced by the Radio and Television Faculty of the University of Silesia in Katowice will be screened within the frames of the Big Sur Film Festival in California: "Affection" by Małgorzata Suwała, "The Side" by Alex Casianov and "The Shadow Forest." "The Place" by Julia Popławska and "Object" will compete for the awards in Canada, at the RIDM International Documentary Film Festival. "Object" and "Our Curse" by Tomasz Śliwiński will be screened in Mexico, within the frames of the Guanajuato International Film Festival.

In the southern part of the American continent, Polish films have been invited to the competitive programmes of the festivals Anima Mundi in Brazil and Cinefiesta in Puerto Rico. The viewers of the former will have an opportunity to watch "Blue Room" by Tomasz Siwiński and "To Thy Heart." In the competition at the latter, "Laughter in the Dark" by Marta Trela, "Bittersweet" by Michał Wawrzecki and "The Only Way" by Piotr Domalewski will compete for the awards.

Polish short films qualified also for the competition sections at the festivals Golden Apricot in Armenia and Parnu in Estonia. In Armenia, "The Shepherd's Song" by Vahram Mkhitaryan, "Fragments" and "The Only Way" will be screened. The Estonian audience will have a chance to watch "Super Unit" by Teresa Czepiec, "The Place, " "The Shepherd's Song" and "Invisible."

In the Balkans, the following films will compete for festival laurels: "Shit Eaters" by Agata Wojcierowska - at the Basta Fest festival in Serbia, "Super Unit" - at Supertar in Croatia, "An Incredibly Elastic Man" - at Kratkofil in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

In July, there are also two special screenings of Polish short films. The programme of this year's Polish Panorama at Vila do Conde includes:  "Hurly-Burly" by Jakub Czekaj, "But she's nice" by Tomek Pilarski, "Fragments," "under_construction" and "Object." Within the frames of Summer Film School in the Czech city of Uherskie Hradiste, the screening of six Polish films is planned: "Killing Auntie" by Mateusz Głowacki, "The Baths," "To Thy Heart," "An Incredibly Elastic Man," "Fragments" and "But she's nice."

It is worth mentioning that in July the viewers at the festivals T-Mobile New Horizons and Animator in Poznań will have a chance to watch a wide representation of Polish short cinema.
