"THE MOTHER" BY OSTALSKI WINS IN SPAIN

29th edition of the Spanish festival Cine Jove ended on Friday evening in Valencia. The award for the best short film went to Łukasz Ostalski - the author of “The Mother".

This year’s short film competition comprised of 56 films produced around the world. There were two Polish films among them - aforementioned "The Mother" by Łukasz Ostalski, and a short animated film by Miłosz Margański, entitled "Ars moriendi". Ultimately, it was the film by Ostalski that won the Luna de Valencia award for the best short film.

Małgorzata - an important politician - goes to the cottage at the lake. Her son  - a drug addict - needs help. Małgorzata asks her daughter for support. On the spot, they find the semi-conscious boy and a massacred body of a young girl.  In the face of the tragedy, their mutual relationships get complicated, revealing hidden grudges. The mother must take the most difficult decision in her life.

The film by Łukasz Ostalski enjoys great popularity in Spain. Last week, it won the Special Mention at the festival in Huesca, and earlier it was shown, among others, at the Mecal festival. "The Mother" is a diploma film by Ostalski, who graduated from Gdynia Film School.

It is worth adding that the Special Mention of the Feature Film competition went to "The Word" by Anna Kazejak. Kazejak has made several short films including "A few simple words" and "You are there".

The Festival Cine Jove is one of the five most important Spanish film festivals with international renown. Every year, in Valencia the audience and the guests of the festival can see the latest and the best films dedicated to the problems of the young, which compete for the awards in two competition categories - short and feature-length films. The festival is accredited by FIAPF. This year's, 29th  edition of Cine Jove was held from 20th to 27th  June.
