POLISH SHORT FILMS AT THE CURTAS FESTIVAL

The 22nd edition of the Curtas festival began on 5th July. In the programme, as every year, there is a screening of Polish short films. The animation "Blue Room" by Tomasz Siwiński will compete for the festival's Grand Prix in the main competition.

34 films participate in this year's international short film competition. "Blue Room" by Tomasz Siwiński is the only Polish film among them. The animation, made using a painting technique, is a story of a man who wakes up in a blue room and tries to deal with his painful memories. In May, the film took part in the prestigious section Critics’ Week at the Film Festival in Cannes. The international competition is one of the five competitive sections, held within the frames of the festival.

The winners will be announced on 13th July, at the festival's closing ceremony.

Every year, in the programme of Curtas festival a rich panorama of short European films is presented.  Also this year, the organisers invited Krakow Film Foundation to prepare the screening of Polish films. In this year's set, there are four films, the subject of which oscillates around the connection between reality and the world of dreams.  In the programme, you can see the animations "Ziegenort" by Tomasz Popakul and "Baths" by Tomek Ducki, animated documentary "The Governance of Love" by Adela Kaczmarek, as well as the fiction film "Killing Auntie" by Mateusz Głowacki.

Apart from Poland, films produced in Belgium, Finland, the Netherlands and Romania will be shown in the non-competing section "European panorama".

The organisers of the festival, which is held during football world cup, decided to emphasise film's connection to football and because of that, in the programme, within the section "Offside", there is a film block dedicated to this issue. Within the frames of this year's edition of the festival, a retrospective of the films by Michelangelo Antonioni will also be shown.
