THE SUCCESS OF „NORMAL PEOPLE” IN MEXICO

On 17th March the 8th edition of student film festival KINOKI reached its end. The jury decided to hand over one of the main prizes to the short fiction “Normal people” by Piotr Złotorowicz – a student of Polish National Film School in Łódź.

KINOKI is a festival that annually screens the most interesting films made by students of film schools from all over the world. The idea of the festival, and its name particularly, refers to manifestos of Soviet documentarist Dziga Vertov and stems from the need of revealing the cinematic truth in the cinema. In this year’s programme there were precisely 46 films screened that each correspond very uniquely to the idea of “kino – pravda”.

The fiction programme was composed of thirteen films among which there were two Polish ones – apart from the above mentioned “Normal people” also “Poranek” by Justyna Tafel. In the end it was Piotr Złotorowicz who received the award for the best directing.

"Normal People" is a story of Daniel, who has just been released from prison, is trying to make a new life for himself. It is not easy – he must take care of his alcoholic mother and find a job. Maybe he can find some happiness in a new relationship with a medical rescuer he has just met? Normal People are people with their secrets and weaknesses but also with dreams about a better ‘normality.’ Will they manage to realize their dreams?

The Festival was held between 9th  – 17th  March in Mexico.
