MASTERCLASS BY WITOLD GIERSZ IN LEIPZIG

Witold Giersz is the guest of this year's, 58th edition of the documentary and animated film festival DOK Leipzig. The Polish director will give the masterclass and will show thirteen animated films, made by him, in Leipzig.

Witold Giersz is the author of over 60 animated films. His career began in the second half of the 1950s., when Giersz started to co-operate with the Animated Film Studio in Bielsko-Biała. His first successes included the films "The Horse," "Mały western," "Czerwone i czarne," made in Studio Miniatur Filmowych in Warsaw. He is the winner of numerous awards, given in Poland and abroad. In his animated film, Giersz uses patch of colour in a characteristic way. Though he often makes his films using various techniques, they are united by consistent imagery and recognisable use of colours.

At the DOK Leipzig festival, Witold Giersz will give a masterclass - he will talk about his animated cinema and will expand on the unique language of his films. The meeting will be held on October 28 in the Polish Institute in Leipzig. The masterclass will be complemented by the screening of 13 films by the Polish director. Among the films selected for the programme of the Giersz retrospective, there are: "Rondo alla Turca," "The Horse" and "Oczekiwanie."

DOK Leipzig is one of the most important international festivals in the world of documentary and animated film. Every year, DOK Leipzig presents a wide spectrum of latest film productions from several dozen countries from all continents. Last year at the festival, one could watch 368 films from 62 countries. The festival is accompanied by various industry events, among others, DOK Market, International DOK Leipzig Co-Production Meeting and DOK Summit, thanks to which it is possible to establish precious contacts in the documentary and animated film industry and gain extensive knowledge about film production.
