POLISH ANIMATION AT ANIM’EST IN ROMANIA
The sixth edition of Romanian festival anim’est is going to be an excellent treat for everybody interested in Polish animated film. Our animations will be present not only in the competitive section but also in three retrospective screenings devoted both to the older films as well as those produced in the last few years.
This year Poland is a guest country at Anim’est. Three main sections are going to demonstrate the variety Polish Animation developed over the years. The festival’s audience will get the chance of watching eleven short films by the masters of classic animation such as Mirosław Kijowicz (“Cages”), Jan Lenica (“Labitrynth”), Marek Serafiński (“Race”) or Jerzy Kucia (“Reflections”). Another programme that includes such films as “Cathedral” by Tomasz Bagiński, “Refrains” by Wioletta Sowa and “The Chick” by Michał Socha will investigate on what films were produced in Poland after 1989. The full length animated “George. The Hedgehog” by Wojtek Wawszczyk, Jakub Tarkowski and Tomasz Leśniak will add the last element to the Polish screening.
The second programme is focused on the output of Se-Ma-For studio based in Łódź that from the end of the forties is the leading producer of animated film in Poland. In the parallel programme there are films by the classics – Zbigniew Rybczyński, Stefan Schabenbeck or Marek Skrobecki as well as the latest productions that turned out to be successful – Oscar winning “Peter and the Wolf” by Suzie Templeton or already pretty well-known “Two steps behind” by Paulina Majda. In total nineteen exceptional titles that present studio’s history.
There will be also a nice Polish accent present in the competitive sections, where “Millhaven” by Bartek Kulas, “Beyond the old age” by Grzegorz Wacławek, “Maska” by Quay Brothers and “Ritual” by Zbigniew Czapla will be screened. During third edition of non-competitive “Creepy animation night”, introducing animations that for many various reasons give the creeps, the audience will watch “The Ark” by Grzegorz Jonkajtys, “Perpetuum mobile” by Agnieszka Bruszewska, “B-1033” by Paweł Kryszak and “Underlife” by Jarosław Konopka.
Festival will be held between 7th and 16th October in Bucharest, and then a part of the programme will be screened in Vluj-Napoca (28th-30th October) and finally in moldavian Chisinau (3rd- 6th October).
