“OUT OF REACH” ON ITS WAY FOR CINEMA EYE HONORS!

Eleven films from six countries have been named as finalists for the 2012 Cinema Eye Honors for Outstanding Achievement in Nonfiction Short Filmmaking. Among nominees there is one Polish documentary film – “Out of Reach” by Jakub Stożek.


The Cinema Eye Honors for Nonfiction Filmmaking were founded in late 2007 to recognize and honor exemplary craft and innovation in nonfiction film.  Cinema Eye’s mission has been to advocate for, recognize and promote the highest commitment to rigor and artistry in the nonfiction field.


Finalists for the Nonfiction Short Filmmaking award were determined in voting by top short film/documentary programmers from international film festivals.  This year’s nominations committees are chaired by Sean Farnel, the former Director of Programming at Hot Docs.  Committee members included Hussain Currimbhoy (Sheffield Doc/Fest), Sarafina DiFelice (Hot Docs), Ben Fowlie (Camden International Film Festival), Ted Mott (Full Frame), Veton Nurkollari (DokuFest Kosovo), Sky Sitney (Silverdocs) and Kim Yutani (Sundance Film Festival).


Among 2012 Cinema Eye Honors Short Film Finalists there is one Polish documentary film: “Out of Reach” by Jakub Stożek, produced by Darklight Film Studio.


The film is a story about two sisters, Karolina and Klaudia, who decide to look for their mother, who has left home fourteen years ago. The girls are impressively mature, they solve their own problems, and support each other in every circumstance. On the threshold of adult life, they make another attempt at rebuilding family relations that for years have been neglected by adults.


A jury of Cinema Eye Honors will watch all 11 films and select five nominees and one winner, which will be announced at the 5th Annual Cinema Eye Honors on January 11, 2012 at the Museum of the Moving Image in Astoria, Queens, New York.


"Out of Reach" has been screened at about 30 international film festivals, inluding Sundance Film Festival and Hot Docs. The film was awarded several prizes and special honors such as: Golden Dragon Prize at 50. Krakow Film Foundation, prize for the best short documentary at It's All True IDFF in Brazil, Dokufest in Kosovo, DOCSDF in Mexico, and Honorable Mention at Sundance Film Festival.
