“LIBERTY” WINS IN MACEDONIA

Joanna Różniak's film returns from the 5th edition of Beach Film Festival in North Macedonia with a special award for the best student short film.

Beach Film Festival is a small event held in the city of Ohrid. Its organisers focus on the developing and presenting new European cinema and identifying it as a noteworthy cultural phenomenon. The festival is intended for all age groups, in particular for young audiences interested in film. The main idea behind the event is to take advantage of the summer period and the beach as a social phenomenon and a place for exchanging experiences and thoughts in a more casual way.

This year, the program has featured three Polish student films. In addition to Joanna Różniak's awarded film, Forever by Aleksandra Kamińska and Hide and Seek by Karolina Belka also competed for the jury's attention.

The winning Liberty is set in the near, dystopian future where citizens rebel against an increasingly oppressive nationalist government. Kuba, a 20-year-old member of an illegal opposition group, is arrested at a street protest. When it becomes clear that his rebellion also has a personal angle, he must make a decision that will change his future.

The film was made at the Krzysztof Kieślowski Film School in Katowice.
