POLISH SHORT FILMS AT FESTIVALS IN NOVEMBER
Despite the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic, film festival organizers are not giving up. This month, Polish short films will appear on the screens of many of them - from Taiwan, through various European countries, to the USA with a special focus on festivals in Germany, Slovenia and Great Britain.
November will start spectacularly for Polish short films. At the Leeds International Film Festival, viewers will have a chance to see fourteen Polish productions. The competition includes "We have one heart" by Katarzyna Warzecha and "The Land Of Whim" by Betina Bożek, while the non-competitive sections will include: "Creatures" by Tessa Moult-Milewska, "Fences" by Natalia Krawczuk, "XOXO - kisses and hugs" by Wiola Sowy, "Locus" by Anita Kwiatkowska-Naqvi, "Evening" by Izabela Plucińska, "Bernard" by Anna Oparkowska, "Three Women On a Bench" by Karolina Borgiasz, "III" by Marta Pajek, "Squaring The Circle" by Karolina Specht, "Bless You!" Paulina Ziółkowska, "The Land Of Whim" by Betina Bożek and "Story" by Jola Bańkowska.
In the first week of November the animation festival in Wiesbaden takes place, where the competition section includes "Such a Beautiful Town" by Marta Koch, "Portrait of Suzanne" by Izabela Plucińska and "Portrait of a Woman" by Natalia Durszewicz. At the same time, "Your Own Bullshit" by Daria Kopiec has a chance to win awards at the international festival in Cork, while "Red" by Karina Węgiełek will be showcased at the international Fort Lauderdale festival in the USA.
The second week of November will be marked by the 36th edition of the Interfilm festival in Berlin, as part of which will be Focus na Polska. Two films were included in its selection for the short film competition: "We Hope You Won’t Need To Come Back" by Anastasia Naumenko and "Metro" by Natalia Krawczuk. Part of the Focus on Poland section will showcase: "Locus" by Anita Kwiatkowska-Naqvi, "Bless You!" Paulina Ziółkowska, "Story" by Jola Bańkowska, "Black Volga" by Marta Wiktorowicz, "My strange older brother" by Julia Orlik, "Woolen Coghwheels" by Bartek Kędzierski, "Circling The Square" by Karolina Specht, "You Are Overrreacting" by Karina Paciorkowska, "Portrait of Suzanne" Izabela Plucińska, „Reservation“ by Wiktor Bojanowski, "Badylok" by Karolina Kłapkowska, "Tango of longing" by Marta Szymańska, "Bogdan and Róża" by Milena Dutkowska, "The Crossword" by Jan Bujnowski, "Pussy" by Renata Gąsiorowska, "Baths" by Tomek Ducki, "The Other" by Marta Magnuska, "III" by Marta Pajek, „Black“ Tomek Popakul, "XOXO - kisses and hugs", Wiola Sowa, "Bad Night Story" by Nawojka Wierzbowska, „Settling The Score“ by Zuzanna Grajcewicz, "Fascinatrix" Justyna Mytnik, "Next straight" Emilia Śniegoska, "A Beautiful Thing" by Adrian Kuciel, „Picnic“ by Grzegorz Krawiec, "Fallen Art" by Tomasz Bagiński, „Oh Mother!" At the same time, the Romanian festival Animest will take place, the competition of which includes "We Have One Heart" by Katarzyna Warzecha, the American Hollyshorts Film Festival, during which Krzysztof Chodorowski's "Masha" may be awarded, as well as the festival of short films, part of which they will be "Settling The Score" by Zuzanna Grajcewicz. Two animations were included in the competition of the Portuguese Cinanima festival - "Vitae Azilia" by Joanna Wapniewska and "Such A Beautiful City" by Marta Koch - in the non-competition section, "Red Light Train" by Alicja Kot will also be shown. "My Fat Arse And I" by Yelyzaveta Pysmak, "Such A Beautiful Town" byKoch and "Bless You!" by Ziółkowska will compete for awards at the Big Bang Fest in Argentina.
Other festivals where Polish films will appear are the American Pittsburgh Shorts, the Norwegian festival ReAnima and the Brussels Pink Screen, in which competitions include "Attachment" by Kasia Babicz, "The Land Of Whim" by Betina Bożek and "You Are Overreacting" by Karina Paciorkowska. Julia Orlik's "I Am Here", Yelyzaveta Pysmak's "My Fat Arse And I" and Natalia Durszewicz's "Portrait Of A Woman" will compete for awards at the Film School Fest in Munich. At the same time, in the United States, the jury will evaluate Piotr Sułkowski's "Play" at the West Chester festival, while in Baku, Azerbaijan, the festival of short films will be held, for which "Ricochets" by Jakub Radej and "Bitter Herb" by Maria Ornaf have qualified.
At the festival of short films and documentaries in Bilbao, "Such A Beautiful Town" by Marty Koch and "We Have One Heart" by Katarzyna Warzecha will be shown, "Story" by Bańkowska and "Dog Days" by Zuzanna Grajcewicz, with On the other hand, at the children's cinema festival, Marta Szymańska's "Tango Of Longing" and Karolina Specht's "Circling The Square" will compete for awards. Bartosz Reetz's "The Stop" was included in the competition at the Birmingham festival, Maria Ornaf's "Bitter Herb" will compete for awards at the student film festival at the Russian VGIK. Four Polish short films will be shown on the screens of PÖFF Shorts in Estonia: "Windows Of This House" by Urszula Domańska, "Settling The Score" by Zuzanna Grajcewicz, "I'm Here" by Julia Orlik and "Observation Point" by Aleksander Józefczyk.
In the second half of November, Polish short films will visit many French festivals. Beginning with the Court C'est Court Short Film Festival, the competition of which included "Bless You!“ by Ziółkowska, folliwng with the Festival International Séquence Court-Métrage, where "Portrait of Suzanne" by Plucińska will compete for awards and the Poitiers Film Festival with "I'm here" by Orlik in ist selection. In addition, at Fête de l'anim, viewers will showcase two more Polish films: "The Little Soul" by Barbara Rupik and "Marbles" by Natalia Spychała. "Tango Of Longing" by Szymańska and "Story" are in the competition of the Portuguese OLHO Animation Film Festival. Bańkowska's film was also included in the program of the Italian festival Through the Looking Glass. At the same time, the Taiwanese Taichung International Animation Festival will be held, where viewers will watch Karina Paciorkowska's "You Are Overreacting". At the end of November "The Little Soul" by Rupik will be showcased in the competitions of the Brazilian festival Phenomena and the Romanian BIEFF.
November will end with an equally strong as it began. On the last day of the month, the international animation festival Animateka will start in Slovenia, the competition of which will include eight Polish films: "Plantarium" by Tomek Ducki, "The Land Of Whim" by Betina Bożek, "My Fat Arse And I" Yelyzaveta Pysmak, "Such A Beautiful Town" by Marta Koch, "Now Listen" by Katarzyna Kijek and Przemysław Adamski, "The Last Supper" by Piotr Dumała, "Marbles" by Natalia Spychała and "Portrait Of A Woman" by Natalia Durszewicz. The Animateka will also include special screenings "Mock-Heroic" by Hanna Margolis, "Re-Cycle" by Mateusz Lenart, "Vitae Azilia" by Joanna Wapniewska, "Windows Of This House" by Urszula Domańska and "I'm here" by Julia Orlik.
