"RAIN" AWARDED IN ANNECY

The animated film by Piotr Milczarek was given the Jean-Luc Xiberas award for the best debut short film at the Festival in Annecy.

The festival in Annecy is one of the most important and one of the oldest festivals in Europe, dedicated to the animated film. Every year, it attracts over 150 thousand of viewers, and it also turns into a meeting place of professionals connected to the animated film industry, coming from around the world.

One of the brightest parts of the programme is four competitions: the short film competition, the television film competition, the student film competition and the best commissioned film award. It was in the first category that the film by Piotr Milczarek, produced by FUMI Studio, was included.

The award-winning production is a light animated film, telling the story about the collective consciousness. About the fact that the lack of any kind of responsibility for one's own deeds makes one follow the crowd unthinkingly, which can lead to a tragedy. It is also a film about an individual's attempt to fight against collective hypnosis and about the consequences, both for the individual and for the crowd.

"Rain" is not the only Polish film shown at the festival. This year, as many as three Polish films competed for the best short animated film award at the festival. In addition to the film by Milczarek, the following films had a chance to win a statuette: "Acid Rain" by Tomasz Popakul and "Story" by Jola Bańkowska. These films were invited to the student film competition: "You Are Overreacting" by Karina Paciorkowska, "Ovule" by Natalia Durszewicz and "The Little Soul" by Barbara Rupik. In turn, in the commercial film category, the trailer of the festival  Tricky Women/Tricky Realities Festival, made by Marta Pajek, competed for the award.

There was no lack of Polish films in the non-competing sections, too. It was there where you could watch the latest animated films by Piotr Dumała ("Last Supper" ) and by Izabela Plucińska ("Portrait of Suzanne").
