POLISH FILMS AWARDED IN SERBIA

Yesterday evening the 5th edition of the International Film and Music Festival Küstendorf, running from 17th January in Serbian Mokra Gora, came to an end. Two Polish films “Glasgow” and “Barbican” selected to the competition will return home with the awards.

This year’s competitive section of the festival was composed of twenty films produced all over the world that competed for the Golden Egg Award. At Monday’s closing ceremony the winners were announced. The main award was handed over to the Spanish director Fernando Pomares for his “Alto Sauce”, second place was given to the Serbian “Boys where are you?” by Jelena Gavrilović while “Glasgow” by Piotr Subbotko took the third place. The award to Subbotko was presented by Iranian Actress Leila Hatami who on behalf of jury pointed out that the film went into the story of a mother and a child with humorous and surprising moments, which were always unpredictable. This is the fifth international award presented to “Glasgow” produced within the frame of 30 minutes programme by Munk Studio in coproduction with Wajda Studio and TVP.

The second award of the evening - Critic’s Choice Award was presented to Bartek Żmuda – the director of “Barbican” in recognition of its excellent direction and strong dramaturgy - thanks to which the viewer was caught in the movie's plot.  Żmuda’s graduation film produced at Polish National Film School in Łódź is a story of Emil B. who comes back to Poland after working in Germany. His long journey home brings a number of sad and unexpected incidents and will turn his life upside down.

Festival Küstendorf was founded five years ago by Emir Kusturica – two-time winner of Golden Palm at Cannes Film Festival, the author of such films as “Underground” and “When Father was away on Bussiness”. Every year apart from the competition section, the festival hosts a number of thematic cycles and retrospectives – this year devoted to the work of Kim-Ki Duk and Nuri Bilge Ceylan, who also ran a film workshop during the festival.
