PAWEŁ CHORZĘPA’S “THE TUNERS” WINS AN AWARD IN INDONESIA

It is an excellent time for Paweł Chorzępa and his short documentary. Only yesterday, “The Tuners” was awarded the Silver Dragon at the 66th Krakow Film Festival, and today another piece of great news has reached us: the film has won The Best Short Film Award at the Bali International Film Festival – Balinale in Indonesia. This is a particularly important distinction, as it is an Academy Award-qualifying award.

The Bali International Film Festival, known as Balinale, has been held since 2007 and enjoys international recognition for its diverse programme of independent fiction, documentary, feature-length and short films. The festival presents compelling stories from Indonesia and different parts of the world, creating a meeting place for auteur cinema that is socially sensitive and formally bold.

“The Tuners” takes viewers behind the scenes of the Chopin Competition in Warsaw, one of the world’s most prestigious piano events. Alongside the pianists’ rivalry, another, less visible competition unfolds – between tuners representing the leading piano manufacturers. Working day and night, they refine the colour of every sound, each guided by their own philosophy, method and sensitivity to the instrument. It is their work that determines how the piano chosen by a performer will sound – and whether it can become an instrument of victory.

The film had its world premiere at this year’s FIPADOC in France and was screened at Tampere FF in Finland. The film is produced by Joanna Chorzępa of Beesfilm House, with international festival distribution handled by KFF Sales.
