SHORT FILM FESTIVALS IN MARCH

The first rays of spring sun herald the boom in the world of festivals. In March, Polish short films will be watched in special programmes at the festivals "The Fantastic Four" in Turkey and the International Short Film Week Regensburg in Germany.

The festival March for short film began with the competition screening of the film "Love, love" by Grzegorz Zariczny at True/False Film Festival in the USA. A day later started the Watersprite festival in Cambridge, at which the films "The Shadow Forest" by Andrzej Cichocki, "It Could Have Happened, It Had To Happen"” by Katarzyna Warzecha and "God Bless You" by Jakub Radej were shown. The first two feature films returned from Great Britain with awards. Still in February, started the festival "The Fantastic Four" in Turkey, during which in the programme prepared by Krakow Film Foundation, one could see as many as twelve short films dealing with fantastic themes. In the first half of the month, the viewers in the USA will have a chance to see "The Shadow Forest" at Pasadena International Film Festival, whereas in Portugal, at the animated film festival Monstra, they will see "To Thy Heart" by Ewa Borysewicz, "Sexy Laundry" by Izabela Plucińska, "under_construction" by Marcin Wojciechowski and "Summer 2014" by Wojciech Sobczyk. On March 9 began a large review of Polish short films at the International Short Film Week in Regensburg. In Germany, one will watch as many as 25 our productions.

March begins well for the documentary film "The Place" by Julia Popławska – we will see the film first at the Dutch Mountain Film Festival in the Netherlands, and then at the High Mountains Film Festival in Slovakia.

"The Place" will also appear at the 54th edition of the Ann Arbor festival in the United States, where the audience will have the opportunity to meet a strong representation of Polish cinema. In the competition, apart from the documentary film by Popławska, there is also the film by Paulina Skibińska "Object," as well as four animated films: "Sto[ne]s" by Marcin Giżycki,"Fugue For Cello, Trumpet and Landscape" by Jerzy Kucia, the experimental "The Resonance" by Mateusz Sadowski, and "The Analysis of Emotions and Vexations" by Wojciech Bąkowski. This month, "Sto[ne]s" will be also available at the Holland Animation Film Festival, where the following films will be also shown: "A Documentary Film" by Marcin Podolec, "Kinki" by Izumi Yoshida and "Black" by Tomasz Popakul.

March is also a good month for the feature film "A long time ago in Silesia." The film will be present in the programme of the Silk Road Film Festival in Ireland, the Rotary Short Film Festival Rofife in Turkey, at Transilvania Shorts and at the festival Bunter Hund in Germany. At the last of the aforementioned festivals, the film by Vita Maria Drygas "Knife in the Wife" will also participate in the competition.

Five Polish short films will be shown in Spain at the animated and short film festival Mecal Pro, these are: "Woolen Cogwheels" by Bartosz Kędzierski, "Don't Lose Your Head" by Karolina Specht, "Larp" by Kordian Kądziela, "Domestication" by Sylwia Gaweł and "Object" by Paulina Skibińska.

The documentary film by Skibińska will also be shown at the festival Regard in Canada. Apart from it, the following films are included in the programme: "Milky Brother" by Vahram Mkhitaryan, "Blue Room" by Tomasz Siwiński and "The Baths" by Tomasz Ducki.

At the turn of the month, Polish short films will be shown in the United States ("Invisible" by Marta Prus at Fargo Film Festival) and at European festivals: "Multiphrenia" will compete for the awards at Ca’ Foscari Short Film Festival in Italy, "Everything in its right place" and "Fences" will vie in the competition at the Aubagne IFF in France, and "Danse Macabre" and "Toto" will be shown at the Traverse Video Festival, also in France. Polish short films will also visit Slovakia - the films "The Afterimage" by Piotr Dudak and "America" by Aleksandra Terpińska will be shown there.

Another film which will have a lot of screenings this month is "Super Unit" by Teresa Czepiec. The documentary film will participate, among others, in the documentary film festival One World International Human Rights in the Czech Republic, the festival Greenpoint in the USA, and in Amdocs, also in the USA. At the last of the aforementioned festivals, it will be accompanied by "Signum" by Witold Giersz.

RecFest in the Czech Republic will be besieged by Polish short films. Our neighbours will see "Fragments" by Aga Woszczyńska, "You Keep An Eye On Us" by Arek Biedrzycki, "Of A Forest" by Katarzyna Melnyk,"Hurly-Burly" by Kuba Czekaj,"Moko" by Marta Szymańska, "Light in August" by Matej Bobrik and "But she’s nice" by Tomasz Pilarski.

In the last days of March begins the Independent Days Filmfest in Germany, where "Liar" by Maciej Wiktor is in the competition, as well as the festival "Kino Pavasaris" in Vilnius – where the following films will compete for the awards: "A Documentary Film" by Marcin Podolec, "Sexy Laundry" by Izabela Plucińska and "Out of the Blue" by Piotr Małecki.
