“HANOI-WARSAW” NOMINATED FOR THE EUROPEAN FILM AWARD

“Hanoi-Warsaw”, a short feature film by Katarzyna Klimikiewicz, received the nomination for the European Film Academy Award, that is, one of the most prestigious European award for film-makers.

The short films nominated for EFA, European Film Award, are selected from the films shown in the international competitions of thirteen European film festivals which take place in: Ghent, Cork, Valladolid, Berlin, Angers, Tampere, Krakow, Grimstad, Edinburgh, Villa de Conde, Sarajevo, Venice and Drama in Greece. The winners will be announced during the annual award gala, usually held in Berlin or one of European cities. This year’s ceremony will take place on 4th December in Tallin, Estonia.

Nomination for “Hanoi-Warsaw” was announced at the Kortfilmfestivale Norwegian Short Film Festival in Grimstad, which ended on 21st of June. It is worth adding that last year two Polish films were nominated in the same category as the film by Katarzyna Klimkiewicz, namely “Glass Trap” by Paweł Ferdek and “Poste Restante” by Marcel Łoziński. The film by Łoziński was not only nominated, but also won the EFA award.

The film by Katarzyna Klimkiewicz is a story about a young Vietnamese woman called Mai Anh, who reaches Poland through the green frontier. Her destination is Warsaw, where her fiancé waits. However, her journey through Poland becomes a dramatic struggle for dignity and survival.

The film was produced by Kino Polska Television in cooperation with the Film Society 1.2 within the frames of “30 minutes” programme, coordinated by the Munk Studio by Polish Filmmakers Association.  

Katarzyna Klimkiewicz graduated from The Leon Schiller's National Higher School of Film, Television and Theatre in Łódź, the Directing Institute. She is also the scholar of the Binger Film Institute in Amsterdam. Together with Andrew Friedman she made “Wasserschlacht – The Great Border Battle” which received the Berlin Today Award at Berlinale 2007.   Her script play for “Hanoi-Warsaw” won in the competition “Young cadres – debutantes”  organized by Kino Polska Television, which opened the way for making the EFA-nominated film.
