"FLIGHTLESS BIRDS" AWARDED IN SLOVAKIA

The third edition of International Student Film Festival Early Melons 2010 ended in Bratislava. The Best Documentary Film Award went to the director of “Flightless Birds.”

Early Melons is a festival promoting students' films, from Slovakia as well as other countries. The aim of this event is not only to bring the films made by students closer to Slovakian audience, but also to create opportunities for establishing cooperation between film schools from different corners of the world as well as the base for intercultural exchange of experience and ideas.    

The festival offers several programmes, including the international contest, for which one Polish documentary was qualified, “Flightless Birds” by Michał Dawidowicz, and what’s more, it won the best documentary film award.   

Michał Dawidowicz is a pantomime actor and film director. He graduated from Art School in Wrocław, and now he is a student of The Leon Schiller's National Higher School of Film, Television and Theatre in Łódź. The documentary “Flightless Birds” is one of the school etudes. The film shows a story of a man who leads simple life in the country. Everyday life and monotony changes when the protagonist enters his garage.
