POLISH SHORT FILMS AT SHORT FILM CORNER
From yesterday on the accredited quests visiting Cannes Film Festival can watch Polish short films as a part of Short Film Corner selection. This year there are nearly 2000 films made all over the world in the videotheque.
This year the visitors of Short Film Corner can watch Polish short films of all genres in three special programmes singed by Polish National Film School in Łódź, Munk Studio and Polish Shorts by Krakow Film Foundation. In the selection one will easily trace the festivals’ favourites – screened and awarded “Rogalik” by Paweł Ziemilski, “The Whistle” by Grzegorz Zariczny or “All Souls’s day” by Aleksandra Terpińska. Yet along with the most frequently screened come those that are about to start their festivals’ journey – “Magma” by Paweł Maślona and “Flora and Fauna” by Piotr Liwin. As it comes to animated films in the programmes there are many interesting titles to discover such as “Toto” by Zbigniew Czapla, “Luke and Lotta” by Renata Gąsiorowska screened recently in Oberhausen and “Railway watchman” by Piotr Szczepanowicz that in less than a month will be screened in short film competition of Annecy.Short Film Corner displays also films seleted for the official competitions of Cannes Festival – among them two Polish shorts – a fiction “Olena” by Elżbieta Benkowska and an animation “Danse macabre” by Małgorzata Rżanek. Both films will have their official screenings next week.
Short Film Corner, organized annually since 2004, is one of the key events for the short film industry. Last year 88 countries had their film screened there and watched by nearly 3000 attendees visiting Cannes – film directors, sales agents, producers and representatives of film institutions from all over the world. For many filmmakers participation in Short Film Corner brings a pass to the international recognition.
