POLISH SHORT FILM IN FINLAND

The 39th edition of the Tampere Short Film Festival has just begun. It is one of the most important short film events organized in Europe. The festival programme includes competition and special screenings which will feature, among others, New York’s MoMa archives, Andy Warhol’s movies, and retrospectives from such remote countries as Vietnam or Brazil. Next to many productions from all over the world this year’s competition includes three potential award-winning pictures from Poland: A Glass Trap made by Paweł Ferdek as part of ‘The First Documentary’ programme and two film studies from the Łódź Film School: Anna Karasińska’s Universal Spring and Justyna Tafel’s Half Me. Moreover, 15 other films from Poland can be seen at the Film Market which accompanies the festival. Organized on Friday, 6 March, the presentation of the Polish cinema was attended by the most important guests, i.e. film festival representatives, distributors as well as representatives of televisions and film institutions. All the guests were presented with Polish Shorts 2008, a DVD produced by the Adam Mickiewicz Institute and the Krakow Film Foundation. The DVD, which includes a selection of ten films, will be distributed at the most important short film festivals all over the world.
