The principal event dedicated to the culture of documentary in Latin America, It’s All True 2011 – International Documentary Film Festival, came to an end. Once again this year Jakub Stożek and his short film “Out of Reach” appeared among the winners.

Thanks to sixteenth edition of It’s All True Festival for nearly two weeks (31 March – 10 April) the art of documentary from all around the world had been visiting two Brazilian cities, Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. Besides the films from Latin America, in the programme there were a lot of documentaries from Europe, also from Poland – "Out of Reach" by Jakub Stożek and "Inventory" by Paweł Łoziński.

The international jury which was formed by the Portuguese documentary filmmaker Graça Castanheira, Canadian-Iranian director and journalist Maziar Bahari and Sean Farnel, program director of Hot Docs, chose the Polish film "Out of Reach" by Jakub Stożek as the Best Documentary in the Short Film International Competition. After the Honorable Mention at the Sundance Film Festival and Special Prize at the Docudays UA in Kiev this is the third success of "Out of Reach" this year.

The jury’s verdict is as following: "Out of Reach" is a breathtaking emotional cinematic experience. The film offers a rare insight into the life of a family through a combination of a dramatic turn of events and engaging characters who fully trust the filmmaker.

"Out of Reach" is a story about two sisters Karolina and Natalia who try to reconstruct their identity after growing up in a family commanded by a dominating father without their mother’s presence. When Natalia’s health begins to deteriorate, the two decide to search for their mother, Bozëna, who left them when they were very young and is supposedly living in Paris. Followed by the film’s director, Jakub Stożek, Karolina (the older sister) searches for someone she hasn’t seen for 14 years and whose telephone always goes right into voicemail.
