TWO POLISH SHORT FILM PROJECTS SELECTED FOR MIDPOINT SHORTS
MIDPOINT Institute – an international organisation providing training programmes supporting the development of the audiovisual industry – is launching a new edition of MIDPOINT Shorts 2026-2027. It is a comprehensive programme dedicated to the development of short film screenplays and projects, closely connected to the European film industry. Eight projects have been selected for the programme, including two from Poland.
The first is “There’s Something Really Wrong with Our Baby”, a Polish-French co-production by Wiktoria Kwoka (director), Emmanuel Levy (producer), and Kornelia Kamieniarz (producer). The project combines body horror and dark comedy to tell the story of a young couple preparing for parenthood. Their picture-perfect pregnancy, however, turns into a nightmare when the woman begins to believe that what is developing inside her is not a baby, but a cockroach.
The second project is “The March of Herring”, directed by Jakub Jakubik and produced by Maks Pilasiewicz. The story follows Ewa, who returns from London to a small Kashubian fishing village to care for her dying father, Józwa – one of the last inshore fishermen in the area.
Over the coming months, both projects will be developed under the guidance of industry experts. The first workshop will take place in October in Brno during the ISFF BRNO16, while the second will be held in Trieste in January 2027. The programme will conclude with a project showcase as part of the When East Meets West Co-Production Forum during the Trieste Film Festival.
