“FAT KATHY” WINS IN IRELAND

The short documentary by Julia Pełka stole the hearts of jurors at the OFFline Film Festival in Ireland.

OFFline Film Festival is a rather small but very open an interesting film event for all cinema enthusiasts. The event has been held since 2010 in the town of Birr, with screenings taking place over the course of five days. Attendees have the opportunity to see both local and international productions.

This year, the program featured Julia Pełka's documentary short. Fat Kathy was named the best international short film of the festival.

The titular Fat Kathy is a water pump that has 8 supersensitive clams connected to computers. The lives of millions of people living in the city depend on them. The only scientist-malacologist in Poland makes sure that the specimens used in the system work properly and generate an alarm in the event of water contamination.
