"ROLLERCOASTER" AT THE SAN SEBASTIAN FESTIVAL

It is the 13th time that a special event dedicated to the work of film school students appears in the programme of the San Sebastian festival. This year's International Film Students Meeting is held from 23rd to 16th September. "Rollercoaster" by Marek Marlikowski got selected as the sole Polish film.

Marlikowski is a graduate of Film Directing at the Radio and Television Faculty of the University of Silesia in Katowice.  His "Rollercoaster" is a story of a girl who prepares for an unusual exam. She tries to fully control the reactions of her organism. She dives, runs, meditates. In spite of the training, her body does not behave in the way she wants it to. Despite family and health complications, the girl keeps on struggling. During the exam, two paths of her life: her passion and family cross their tracks so that the events of this day stay in her psyche forever. The main role is played by Justyna Wasilewska.

So far, "Rollercoaster" has been shown, among others, at the festivals in Leuven, Reykjavik, Prague, Montevideo, and - last month - also in Monterrey.

This year 14 student films will screen as a part of the International Film Students Meeting at San Sebastian Film Festival. The student etudes will be watched by the jury consisting of one student from each of the film schools participating in the competition – Marcin Filipowicz will be the Polish jury member. The jury will be chaired by the an prominent professional from the world of film. The event allows students from around the world to meet and make new business contacts.  Apart from the screenings, within the frames of the International Film Students Meeting also lectures, workshops and masterclasses will be held.

It is worth mentioning that two years ago, in the same competition, another film etude made at the Radio and Television Faculty of the University of Silesia was shown - "All Souls' Day" by Aleksandra Terpińska.

The Festival in San Sebastian is one of the most important and the oldest film festivals in the world.  This year's, 62nd  edition takes place from 19th  to 27th  September.
