THE PLACE
POLISH TITLE: ODERWANIE
A mother lives with her three kids in a stark, concrete building – without windows, doors or furniture. Naked, without any distinguishing features, they live alone in the place isolated from the rest of the world. The children’s only food is their mother’s milk. What will happen if it is gone? Will a fig tree become their tree of life? A terrifying, surreal animation referring to the biblical motif of the paradise and the forbidden fruit. The atmosphere of fear and uncertainty is enhanced by disturbing music, which sends a message that even apparently trivial decisions may influence our entire lives.

Sylwia Zawiła »
born in 1995 in Wadowice. In 2020 she defended her MA at the Animated Film Studio at the Graphic Arts Department of the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków. She is an animator, illustrator and commercial graphic artist. In her new film “The Place”, she tells the story of the moment of transfer from childhood to adulthood and leaving your family home.
