GRAND PRIX FOR POLISH DOCUMENTARY IN CLERMONT-FERRAND!
After the success at the DOKLeipzig Festival (the Golden Dove Award in the international short documentaries competition) “A Piece of Sumer” by Marta Minorowicz triumphed once again – this time winning the Grand Prix at the 33rd edition of International Short Film Festival in Clermont-Ferrand. Minorowicz received the prize in person.
The victory of “A Piece of Summer” has become an impressive finial of Polish attendance at this year’s festival in Clermont-Ferrand. Apart from competition screening the festival audience has got a chance of watching Julia Kolberger’s “Tomorrow I’ll Be Gone” with the cinematography by Jakub Giza (as the one of the films chosen for the special screening by Kodak) and animated film "Little Black Square" by Tomasz Siwiński (screening in the programme "Sacrebleu Productions Producer's Carte Blanche"), as well as six new films promoting recently appeared DVD “Polish Shorts 2010” ("Twist&Blood" by Kuba Czekaj, "Millhaven" by Bartek Kulas, “Talk to him” by Agata Prętka, “The End of The World” by Mateusz Skalski, “Sing Me to Sleep” by Magnus Arnesen, “Heroic Parrot With The Dog” by Marcin Sławek) and almost fifty titles in video library at the Market. What is more, two Polish projects (by Wojciech Kasperski and Rafał Kapeliński) were presented during Euro Connection Forum, and several hundreds of people – interested in the newest Polish cinema – have visited The Polish Shorts booth prepared by the Krakow Film Foundation.
“A Piece of Summer” is the story about a boy who visits his grandfather at the end of summer, at the end of holidays. Surrounded by wild nature and severe world they try to rebuild their bonds. The camera follows the protagonists, their a little bit complicated relationship and their attitude towards extremely beautiful, however, uncompromising reality of mountainous area.
Marta Minorowicz graduated from the English Studies and Theater Studies at the Jagiellonian University, Krakow, Poland, and also from The Andrzej Wajda Master School of Film Directing. For five years she has been working for the Polish channel TVN, where she has realized TV programmes devoted to social problems. For the Discovery Channel (History) she directed “The Angel of Death”- documentary depicting the story about one woman who was the victim of dr Jozef Mengele’s experiments.
