TWO POLISH PRODUCTIONS AT THE PRESTIGIOUS NEW YORK FESTIVAL
Two Polish films have been selected for this year’s edition of DOC NYC – the largest documentary film festival in the United States, taking place from November 12 to 20, 2025, in New York City. Recognized as one of the most important international platforms for documentary cinema, the festival celebrates the power of true stories and diverse voices, bringing together filmmakers and audiences in the spirit of artistic dialogue.
In the Metropolis Competition, which focuses on stories rooted in New York City, the documentary “My Sunnyside” directed by Matylda Kawka will be presented. The film offers a moving portrait of Jo and Allie, a transgender couple who, after years of searching for their identities, build a family grounded in love and mutual support. Their everyday life in the Sunnyside neighborhood is filled with tenderness, challenges, and hope - until an unexpected diagnosis puts their relationship to the ultimate test.
In the Shorts: Look Up section, audiences will see “Lift Lady” directed by Marcin Modzelewski. Set in a brutalist housing complex governed by absurd rules, the film follows Mzia - a former sniper who now operates a paid elevator— as she becomes a symbolic guardian of a unique “system” of communication. Her surreal and ironic daily routine paints a tragicomic portrait of contemporary Georgia.
DOC NYC is a festival of exceptional prestige - its award-winning short documentaries qualify for Academy Awards® consideration in the Documentary Short Subject category.
