POLISH SHORT FILMS AT INTERNATIONAL FESTIVALS IN OCTOBER
It's shaping up to be an extremely intense festival month. Polish short films will be presented at numerous international events. Our productions will visit Serbia, Portugal, Latvia, South Korea, the United States, Russia, and more.
The FEST - New Directors/ New Films Festival kicks off at the beginning of the month in Portugal and stars as many as five Polish shorts films. The animated films “My Fat Arse and I” by Yelyzaveta Pysmak, “The Moon” by Tomek Popakul, “I'm Here” by Julia Orlik, “We Hope You Won't Need to Come Back” by Anastazja Naumenko, and Michał Ciechomski's live-action “Love” are all competing for its awards. The first film from the above list will also be screened at the European Animated Film Festival BALKANIMA in Serbia. The Drunken Film Fest Oakland is taking place in the US at the same time and its audience will get to watch “Your Own Bullshit” by Daria Kopiec.
The CinEast Central and Eastern European Film Festival is launching in the second week of October. The competition section of the Luxembourg festival brings “Beyond is the Day” by Damian Kocur and Julia Orlik's “I'm Here”. Katarzyna Agopsowicz's animated film “Prince in a Pastry Shop” will be competing for awards at the Taichung International Animation Festival in Taiwan, and so will “First Last Summer” by Nastazja Gonera at the International Short Film Festival of Cyprus. Three Polish films can be found in the program of The European Short Film Festival of Nice, Un Festival C'est Trop Court in France. Joanna Dudek's animated “Ashes”, the live-action “Beyond is the Day” by Damian Kocur as well as “Last Days of Summer” by Klaudia Kęska have all been invited to this festival. The latter title – along with “Swoboda” by Joanna Różniak – will also be presented at the Biennial of the Moving Image in Germany.
Mid-October will see Marta Szymańska's “Tango of Longing” appearing at the San Francisco Dance Film Festival. “The Little Soul” by Barbara Rupik (Craft International Animation Festival in Indonesia), “Settling the Score” by Zuzanna Grajcewicz (Detours en Cinecourt we Francji), and “98 kg” by Izabela Plucińska (International Festival for Documentary and Animated Film – DOK Leipzig) will each get one screening in October. At the German festival, viewers will also see Katarzyna Miechowicz's “Crumbs of Life”. The film is also up for awards at Sweden's Uppsala Short Film Festival.
Rozalia Las's films will have several screenings this month. “May The World Not Carry You” be shown at Fantasy Filmfest in Germany, SENE Film, Music and Arts Festival in the US, Alexandre Trauner ART/Film Festival in Hungary, and the Canlandıranlar Film Festival in Turkey. The Hungarian festival also has “Good Night, Neighbour” in its program. The latter of Las's films has also been included in Italy's Piccolo Festival di Animazione and the MalatestaShort Film Festival.
“The Moon” by Tomek Popakul has three screenings prepared for it. Following Portugal, the film will be shown at the Riga International Film Festival in Latvia, the Big Cartoon Festival in Russia – alongside two other Polish animated films competing for its awards: “We Hope You Won’t Need to Come Back” by Anastazja Naumenko and „My Fat Arse and I” by Yelyzaveta Pysmak – and at the Bucheon International Animation Festival in South Korea, where we will also see Natalia Durszewicz's “Beasts Among Us” and Pysmak's film once more. In turn, Naumenko's animated film will also be available at the REX Animation Film Festival and HER Docs. It is at the latter festival that Maryia Yakimovich's animated documentary “Papa” will also be shown. You can read more about the festival itself here.
Katarzyna Warzecha was invited to the Shnit Worldwide Shortfilmfestival. “We Have One Heart” will also be presented at the Message to Man International Film Festival competing for awards together with Daria Kopiec's “Your Own Bullshit”.
The end of the month will be just as intense. “I'm Here” by Julia Orlik will be presented before the audience and jurors of the FILMETS BADALONA FILM FESTIVAL in Spain. The audience of the Tehran International Short Film Festival. in Iran will watch Damian Kocur's “Beyond is the Day”, while Nastazja Gonera's “First Last Summer” and Kinga Syrek's “Too Late” will be included in the program of the Raindance Film Festival in the UK.
